Homeopathy for Menopause and Perimenopause
The transition through perimenopause and menopause can be very different from one woman to another. For some it is relatively straightforward; for others, the physical and emotional changes can have a significant effect on everyday life.
I have worked with women experiencing menopause and perimenopause throughout my many years in homeopathic practice. My approach is individual: rather than treating menopause as a single condition with a standard set of remedies, I look at the particular pattern of symptoms and changes occurring for each woman.
An individual approach to menopausePerimenopause commonly begins several years before periods finally stop. During this time, changing hormone levels can be accompanied by changes in menstrual cycles and a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms. These can include:
Not every woman experiences these changes in the same way. Some notice predominantly physical symptoms, while for others changes in sleep, mood, energy or emotional resilience are more significant. This individuality is particularly important from a homeopathic perspective. |

Looking at the whole picture
A homeopathic consultation involves much more than making a list of menopausal symptoms.
Two women may both experience hot flushes, poor sleep and irritability, for example, yet the way those symptoms occur — and the wider changes taking place in their health and wellbeing — may be quite different.
During a consultation I will want to understand what has changed, when it began and what makes your symptoms better or worse. We will also consider your general health, medical history, sleep, energy, digestion, menstrual and hormonal history, and any significant emotional or physical stresses.
It is this overall pattern, rather than menopause alone, that guides an individual homeopathic prescription.
Homeopathy alongside conventional menopause careSeeing a homeopath does not mean that you have to choose between homeopathy and conventional healthcare. Many women who consult me are also seeing their GP or another healthcare professional, and some are using HRT or other prescribed medication. Homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medical care. I do not advise women to stop prescribed medication, including HRT, without discussing this with the clinician responsible for their treatment. It is also important not to assume that every new symptom occurring around menopause is caused by hormonal change. Symptoms that are new, persistent, severe or concerning should be appropriately medically assessed. |

What happens at a consultation?
The first consultation is detailed and gives us time to explore both your current symptoms and your wider health history.
I am interested not only in what you are experiencing, but in the particular way you experience it — including when symptoms occur, what seems to trigger them, what makes them better or worse, and other changes that may have occurred at around the same time.
Following the consultation, I consider the case as a whole before deciding on an individual homeopathic prescription.
Follow-up consultations allow us to assess what has changed and decide on the next step.
Over 30 years of clinical experience
I have been practising homeopathy since 1993 and have worked with women at different stages of life throughout that time.
Alongside my clinical practice, I am a member of the teaching faculty at the School of Homeopathy, teaching and supervising students training to become professional homeopaths. I am also a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths.
My practice is based on Dartmoor in Devon, and I work both locally and online with clients throughout the UK.
Online consultations for menopause and perimenopause
A large part of my practice is now online. An online consultation follows the same detailed case-taking process as an appointment in person, allowing women throughout the UK to consult with me without needing to travel to Devon.
